Mrs Sheila Dikshit who was the senior Congress leader and a long-serving Chief Minister of Delhi died at the age of 81 on July 20, 2019. She served as the president of Delhi Congress, and also served as the Governor of Kerala. She had represented New Delhi Constituency in the Vidhan Sabha of Delhi. In 1984, she became the Member of Parliament for the first time from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. She was a part of cabinet ministers during the Rajiv Gandhi period. 

She was taken to hospital a few days ago, and in the morning of July 20, she was again brought to the Fortis Escorts Hospital because of a cardiac arrest, and treated by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors led by Dr Ashok Seth Chairman of the Hospital. After her admission in the hospital, her condition stabilized temporarily and she again had a Cardiac Arrest due to which she passed away at 3.55 PM on the same day. 

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and many others expressed their grief and condolences. The Delhi Government declared State Funeral tomorrow, and two days mourning in respect of the great leader.
