On Thursday, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), faced a major change when its Mumbai President Sachin Ahir switched camps and joined the Political Party Shiv Sena. Sachin Ahir who happened to be NCP’s Mumbai President joined the party in presence of Uddhav Thackeray and Son Aditya Thackerey.

Such a development seems to be of a major concern for NCP’s local leaders more because of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state which are just months away. Ahir who is a former MLA from Worli area, had been Sena’s principle opponent from the seat.

Ahir seems to be aware of the fact that this transition would be tough to make due to the ideological differences between the two parties. Sachin Ahir plans to start from the very bottom, calling himself a good political student.

Insider information and political scholars suggest that, this move by Shiv Sena was likely prompted by the party’s need to look for a safe seat for Yuva Sena President Aditya Thackeray who is currently on a statewide Jan Ashirwad Yatra.

As of now, the sitting MLA from Worli is Sena's Sunil Shinde. Worli might just be called the heart of Mumbai’s lower middle class Marathi population. It is noteworthy that Ahir had defeated Shiv Sena from the constituency in the last election itself.

For the upcoming assembly elections which are due in October, Yuva Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray who began his Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Jalgaon, with leaders of the Shiv Sena is being projected as the party’s candidate for Chief Minister.

According to reports from the party Shiv Sena, Aditya Thackeray is undertaking the Jan Ashirwad Yatra to thank the people who voted for the Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha elections, and to seek their blessings. This is also being done in a hope to win over those who did not vote for the Sena in the Parliament polls earlier this year.

Aditya Thackerey is also being pushed by the Shiv Sena for becoming its nominee for the deputy CM's chair, according to sources. The meeting where Aditya met with the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis raised several speculations about this.
