On Monday, Lalji Tandon a Veteran BJP politician took oath as the new Governor of Madhya Pradesh.
The oath of office to was administered by Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court RS Jha. Tandon replaced Anandiben Patel as the Governor of MP. While Anandiben Patel has now been appointed the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Assembly speaker NP Prajapati, Leader of Opposition Gopal Bhargav and senior state ministers remained present in a smooth oath taking ceremony held at Raj Bhawan.
Pragya Thakur who is a newly elected Member of Parliament from Bhopal was also in attendance and also offered a red chunri to the newly appointed Governor Lalji Tandon.
Tandon who was born on the 12th of July, 1935 in lucknow has a political career spanning several decades. Lalji Tandon served as the previous Governor of Bihar. Tandon is married to Krishna Tandon since 1958 and has three sons.
Tandon used to be a part of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his early days in politics, and it was there that he came in touch with the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Tandon who is now considered as a protégé of Vajpayee was associated with Vajpayee for over five decades.
Streamlining activities of state universities and colleges was instrumental of 84-year-old Tandon during his tenure as the Governor of Bihar.
Tandon has held various ministeries, served as the Leader of Opposition in UP assembly and has also acted as a minister in the Mayawati and Kalyan Singh government during his persistent political career.
