Recently, India and Pakistan had on 24 October 2019 signed an agreement on the modalities for operationalising the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, paving way for its inauguration ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of the Sikh Guru.

On the directive of Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab government has declared a holiday for 3 districts (Gurdaspur, Kapurthala and Amritsar) on 9 November, 2019 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the state-of-the-art Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) Complex at Kartarpur Corridor in Dera Baba Nanak of Punjab's Gurdaspur district on Saturday, 9 November, 2019.

Moreover, Gurdaspur BJP MP and Bollywood actor Sunny Deol will also be a part of the official Jatha that will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor. The decision was announced by Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh's office on Thursday, 7 November, 2019.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office has cleared Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu's visit to Pakistan to take part in the Kartarpur corridor opening ceremony on the Pakistani side.

The corridor will facilitate visa-free movement but Indian pilgrims are required to carry their passports and will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan, which was established by Guru Nanak Dev in 1522. The design and quality parameters also have been prepared to keep in view the aspirations and religious sentiments of the followers of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. He was born in Punjab (modern-day Pakistan) and gave spiritual teachings based on the universal divinity of creation.
