Kurukshetra University (KU) is a distinguished educational institution based in Kurukshetra, Haryana. The Proctorial Board has announced on Wednesday after its board meeting, that 8 students will be rusticated and will be banned from entering the varsity campus as they had contributed to the death of a fellow student in the Pharmacy Department on Monday. The deceased was Anish Bansal, a 21-year-old final year student of Bachelor of Pharmacy, resident of Pratap Colony in Kurukshetra. He was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Out of the students who have been rusticated, 6 are from the Pharmacy Department. They are Gagandeep, Gagan Gaba, Khushal Singh, Nitish Kumar, Mukesh, Mayank and Wajir Singh of Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology, and a correspondence student Yuvraj Singh. When questioned they said that the incident had happened following some old rivalry related to incidents of ragging.

The police have also registered a case against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code such as sections 148 (rioting and being armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). Now that he is dead, they may add Section 302 (punishment for murder) to the complaint to investigate the matter further.
